They seem to have had trouble getting back to Brize. C17 +1 into Heathrow 3 C130s into Cardiff and the airbus tanker holding (waiting for the runway to set)?

Good effort everyone. Looked great on TV. Were the Voyager and Atlas really, really close or was that a TV illusion? Even Huw Edwards ( yes I know he was somewhere else and not selecting the pictures) did a good job of matching pictures to descriptions. Well done engineers for getting all those Typhoons airborne as well!

They were when they flew over my house, but they need to be able to do that anyway for refuelling.

The C-17 and A400M landing at Heathrow were planned.

Thumbs up

I watched them fly over in Essexland just outside the M25 and they put on a top class show and I did notice the Voyager and Atlas being quite close as if in contact for AAR. Well done all involved.

I know what it says (and that bit is correct) but as BV pointed out, the silhouettes are T2s. Basic recce skills not RAF PR‘s forte.

Good flypast though, well done to all involved.

I'm on holiday in the Wye Valley and was very pleased to see the Hercules overhead. Many "happy" trips in them!

The C17 came directly overhead our bowls club surprisingly low, followed by the Voyager and A400 in very close formation and equally low! An unexpected sight in Twickenham.

The whole run in from ivo Southwold is flown pretty much level at the assigned altitude.

That said, it shouldn't take more than 2 or 3 holds to nail the timing. 😳
Two points for you.

Firstly, the multiple holds is as much about getting everyone airborne in a position to push on time as it is about fettling the ToT. Think of it like the IOT five minutes before the five minutes before. The TOT really only needs a single dog leg if everyone has taken off roughly on time.

Secondly, IAS and TAS are irrelevant. They’ll only be looking at GS for timing purposes. They’ll have a good idea of sensible IAS to fly to give the correct GS.

… besides, wouldn’t your version be Twatts; which of course would be correct with a Scottish twang, if ye ken what I mind

There I was thinking you'd missed the 'T', but re-reading it, you've got me to a Tee!

I was expecting the Chinooks to return to Odiham along H3 which is just north of me, but instead all I saw were the Hercs which must have passed overhead Fairoaks then about a mile south of me at about 1000ft, looked like they might have overflown Farnborough and Odiham too

Not my photos, chevvron! Taken by my lovely little lady friend from her garden.

The F-35B formation looked better in that photo than they did over Buck House!

All the helicopters turned left direct to Biggin, then SW from there to the M25 - got a good view of them heading to Biggin from Addington Hills where, after a last minute decision, I belatedly (and somewhat breathlessly) arrived to look north across a hazy Sarf Lunnun.

Could see all the helicopters, the BBMF and the Hercs fairly well, bigger stuff was a bit vague which surprised me and don't think any of us half dozen people who had gathered at the viewing point saw the F-35 and Typhoon formations at all, I certainly didn't - Sparrow's smoke made them stand out OK.

See the P-8 went south to Dorking, then west towards Guildford, all at around 2000' - must have looked quite impressive!
