SASless ,
CWO
Lifts buildings and walks under them,
Kicks locomotives off the tracks,
Catches speeding bullets,and chews them,
Freezes water at a single glance,
He ,is GOD!!

As used to tell the RAF Apprentices and Techies that passed through my tender hands, monkeys may ride rockets, they can't build rockets.
In those days 5 'O' levels would get you a ride in the front seat, but it took more than that to be an Apprentice.

You can teach a monkey to ride a bike but you can't teach it to fix one.

But you forgot to mention the two A levels.

Would not have got you an interview in my branch!

Not like me to disagree with Shy, but in this case he's not actually correct. I know, 'cos I didn't actually meet his criteria but still got the job

Yes, but your route into the RAF wasn’t the standard direct entry one, due to previous military service elsewhere, n’est pas?

Squaddie time made no difference, Shy - I attended OASC on exactly the same basis as the civvies (albeit in a 'smarter suit' than some) and met the same educational requirements as them too. Like Crab, I just had the one A Level (plus a couple of "Grade O's" (ie the equivalent standard to an O Level)) to show for my 2 wasted years in the 6th form. Not complaining - my career-peak as a Lance-Jack in Cyprus was possibly more enjoyable than if I'd attended some tertiary education establishment or other, and it certainly helped me to get fit.

It's a shame that 15-year-olds had to make life-changing decisions about their careers at that early stage - my best subjects at O Level were Maths, English Lang and French, but I was 'persuaded' that the most useful A's for what I wanted to do were the sciences. Like a mug I did what was suggested. Fortunately it all worked out well in the end - and the Open University is there for those of us who missed-out first time around. (I can remember enough Franglais to recall that it should probably be "n'est-ce pas") .

I had that many A-levels so I was too bright to be a Driver(Airframe) and had to settle for showing young ladies and gentlemen how aeroplanes and the bits inside them worked.

Flying and indeed driving bores the pants off me, hence I tend to do less that 4,000 miles per year.
And yet here you are, with 27500+ posts on something called the ‘Professional Pilots Rumour Network’

Totally agree SASless, willy waving was not my intention in the initial post at all, simply some humour as a juxtapose to what is happening in Ukraine

FWIW the smartest bloke I ever met was a bleep Sgt in Germany. Man was a legend, could turn his hand to anything and make it work. He was also had a gift for being able to tell senior officers what they should do without getting a bollocking. Never met anyone like him, in any colour uniform or in civvy street. He should have made a fortune, but doubt he ever did. Last I heard he was living in a council house in Scotland somewhere.

Inter-service rivalry is fine for a bit of a laugh, but in my book respect is earned by actions, not rank or the colour of a uniform.

Just as well or I would have had to get a proper job for the next 30 plus years

When I were a lad, they let bus conductors join the Met Office. 5B route, Brighton Hove and District Omnibus Company.

Used to love it when asked "previous occupation?" as vetting top-up came round.
