Interesting, as per the article, that an old biplane wasn't picked up by what must be one of the most sophisticated coastline surveillance systems in the world...

It's not the size of the reflected target but the ability to display it to surveillance systems; with an AN2, it's quite possible that the aircraft's groundspeed was slow enough for it not to be displayed on primary radar.

Visited Key West in April 2003, Cuban DC-3 and AN-24 on the ramp at the airport having recently arrived at the behest of hijackers. Not sure their owners ever recovered their property...
