Queen's Colour for the Royal Air Force

An abstract question for those more knowledgeable on such matters ... the RAF has the Queen's Colour, and the Queen's Colour Squadron (No 63 Sqn RAF Regiment). Do these titles persist until HM King Charles III presents a new King's Colour to the RAF? Or do they 'automatically' transfer their titles to the new Monarch? Not at the top of the list of jobs for the King, of course, but just idly wondering what happens!

My understanding is that the Colour is already known as the King’s Colour but that his decision on QCS has yet to be made. The precedent is The King’s Troop RHA, a name the Queen elected to keep as a tribute to her father. We may see the same, but that will take a while to sort.

I may be wrong, but I believe the colour automatically changes name (regardless of the actual insignia on the Colour) as it represents allegiance of the Service to the Sovereign. The name of the Unit is at the direction of the Sovereign (e.g. the ceremonial artillery unit has remained the King's Troop for the last 70 years)

It’s a bit “E II R” to transfer seamlessly to “C III R” 😎

When I was a young Regiment officer over 50 years ago, 63 Squadron was a Light Ack Ack (LAA) Squadron based in Cyprus, armed with the old L70 Bofors gun. QCS was a separate unit based at RAF Uxbridge, although it had a dual role as a field squadron. I am very out of date so can somebody tell me when 63 Squadron became QCS?

No change really. It’s exactly the same unit with the exact same role.
When 63 Squadron disbanded as a Rapier Squadron the number plate was transferred to QCS for its existing war role.
