I seem to recall that one of the Tiger Club's Turbs was modified with a different ignition system, might have been 'PNZ.

Ah, 'JCP, 'PBZ and 'PKZ also had the bulge early on - early Rollason Turbs had a 1200cc VW engine but later on the Ardem modified 1600cc. PNZ lost the bulge later and has the Ardem engine, so I would imagine the bigger engine had a different installation.

All this talk of the Royal Marines has reminded me of a documentary I saw about childhood obesity and levels of fitness and physical activity in the young. I think it was broadcast in 1992 - as I remember talking about it at school. The Duke spoke in his role as Captain General of the Royal Marines, and said that the fitness level of the public had declined over the years.

If we had paid attention to HRH then there would be a healthier population, and the NHS would save countless millions.

Excellent to read that at DOEs specific request, the often excluded aviator's verse will be included in the singing of the hymn "Eternal Father Strong to Serve":
O Spirit, whom the Father sent
To spread abroad the firmament;
O Wind of heaven, by thy might
Save all who dare the eagle's flight,
And keep them by thy watchful care
From every peril in the air.

There was a programme on ages ago that stated the U.K. populace was at its fittest post ww2 as rationing was based on the ideal intake per human being, a sort of countrywide optimum nutrition exercise.

Calls grow to name a Royal Navy ship in honour of Prince Philip as petition calling for a new HMS Duke of Edinburgh gathers 11,000 signatures

Calls to name a Royal Navy warship in honour of Prince Philip are intensifying as Britons pay their respects ahead of his funeral on Saturday.

A petition to name a new military vessel after the late Duke of Edinburgh has rapidly gathered more than 12,000 signatures.

Tory MP James Gray suggested that one of the escort ships for the new Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier could be named after the Duke. 'It would be nice to have the escort ship named after the Duke of Edinburgh – quite fitting,' Mr Gray said......

The Royal Navy's new Type 26 frigates are due to come into service soon and will replace eight Type 23 frigates. They will be tasked with warfighting, maritime security and international engagement on the world stage.....

Primarily, they are set to protect the nation's strategic deterrents and ensure the safety of the new Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers from submarines.

If a ship is named after Prince Philip, it wouldn't be the first to bear the name Duke of Edinburgh.

The HMS Duke of Edinburgh was the lead ship of the Duke of Edinburgh classed armoured cruisers built in the early 1900s.

One of two ships, she was stationed in the Mediterranean when the First World War broke out, and went on to fight in the Battle of Jutland in May 1916.

The ship was the only vessel of the squadron to survive the battle, and was transferred to the Atlantic Ocean for convoy escorts in 1917, before being sold for scrap in 1920.....

I am currently looking at this week's North Devon Gazette which naturally covers tributes to HRH, and there is a large picture of him in MTP welcoming the Commando Logistics Regiment (based at Chivenor) back from Afghanistan.

There is a subtitle for another piece - "He put the interests of others ahead of his own".

In this age of self centredness, we need that example.

A very beautiful and touching ceremony, supported wonderfully by the military, and enhanced to an extraordinary level by an amazing choir of only four people.

The sight of Her Majesty, sitting alone, was unforgettable.

But, like N707ZS, perhaps, I'm wondering why no flypast.

I agree, very classy ceremony. Just proving less can be more. Almost private and personal - even with live TV.

I found it very dignified but also very moving. I felt for Her Majesty sat on her own without the comforting touch of family.

God bless.

Most definitely less was more. I think he would have approved, it was all so much more personal.

Thread drift of the worst kind, but at the same time as rationing was ending, the food industry was learning how stuff "empty" calorific content into products via highly processed (i.e cheap) foodstuffs. The less you pay for calories, the worse it is for your health, so intentionally or not, we have made it easier for those who are the least able to make intellectual compromises between health and cost, to invariably make the wrong decisions about their diets. As for McDonald's and their ilk, the less said the better.
