Trumps swansong? possibly war with Iran?
One hopes this is all just sabre rattling on his part, frightening that a man denied access to Facebook and Twitter has the launch codes to destroy the world!

Donald Trump's parting gift to the world? Signs suggest it may be war with Iran
A telling line in the Times Online today says that all the living ex Defense Secretaries have signed a joint letter to the US military reminding them that their responsibility and allegience lies with the United States and its constitution and not the 'president'.
Sounds like they're worried enough to take this extraordinary step just to reinforce against any misunderstanding.
I think the tangerine chimp's had his fingers so badly burned in the last 48hrs we'll hear no more than indignant and self-pitying splutters from now on.

If he has any remaining sense he'd do well to keep his well well below the parapet for what little remains of his time in office.
It's great you have so much faith in free journalism, unencumbered as it is by the weight of biased press baron owners - however, let's not ignore the journalist who wrote it, as he has a long history as a voice of common sense too, so the content is also valuable. It's is an opinion piece though, rather than solid fact, so consideration must be taken of that.
I'd be very doubtful that anyone in the upper echelons of the US Military would take an order to attack another state from a President who had days left in office, as a lawful order?

Something is Going
I am afraid that journo and also NutLoose with their estimates might be close. Although an ATC Dinosaur I still check traffic regularily on Flightradar24. Since early December I have seen an increasing number of Stratotanker come across the pond. Some into Mildenhall. Some into Ramstein and others going south east into Turkey or Iraq bases. Right in this moment there is a Sentry - reg. 73-1675 operating over the southern Persion Gulf. Joined by a Stratotanker - reg. 58-0047 !! I share that very uncomfortable feeling of coming evil !!
Hope we are all wrong and . . . also hope that the locks in the higher echelons hold.

I live in the far east now and regard the Guardian as a quality publication which can be trusted.
look how they brought down Jonathan Aitken after he falsely, maliciosly, and libelously accused them of fabricating a story about him. He did porridge for that

Man, people are getting thicker and thicker as time goes on, spouting absolutely nonsense just because they read it on a news website which is using shocking headlines for clickbait ad revenue.
What makes people think Trump is willing to start a war when he is the only President within the last 20 years who has not taken the Americans into a war zone? Plus he has less than two weeks to go. But I guess it must be true if the media and the cry babies over on Twitter are saying so!

Washington (CNN)The US military flew two B-52 bombers to the Middle East Thursday from their base in the United States -- the fourth such deployment and show of force by the US Air Force aimed at sending a message to Iran in the past two months.
This latest mission was to "demonstrate the U.S. military's continuing commitment to regional security and deterrence to aggression," the Air Force said in a statement and comes amid concerns Iran may still seek to retaliate for the assassination of Tehran's top military commander in a US drone strike just over a year ago.
The move suggests there will be no let-up in the US deterrence campaign as tensions remain high less than two weeks before President-elect Joe Biden takes office."The aircrews flew a 36-hour, non-stop mission from the 5th Bomb Wing's home at Minot Air Force Base, N.D., to the Arabian Gulf and back to send a clear deterrent message by displaying the ability to deploy overwhelming combat power on short notice," the statement said.
"We continue to see increasing levels of readiness across Iranian defensive systems, and continue to have indications of advanced planning for potential attacks in Iraq, though it is unclear if and when they may move forward with any attack," a defense official said of movements in the region.
There is a broad sense of concern that adversaries could take advantage of the domestic turmoil in the US but as of now there is no indication of any elevated threat tied to the riots that took place at the Capitol in Washington on Wednesday.

Russia continually penetrates airspace and tests air defence capabilities close to the UK with its "Bear" aircraft. Such deterrence activities as these are common, and do not dressage invasions.

Well let's hope so Spoooky, as they are reporting
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told members in a letter that she spoke to the chairman of the joint chiefs about President Trump and the nuclear codes.
"This morning, I spoke to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley to discuss available precautions for preventing an unstable president from initiating military hostilities or accessing the launch codes and ordering a nuclear strike," Pelosi wrote. "The situation of this unhinged President could not be more dangerous, and we must do everything that we can to protect the American people from his unbalanced assault on our country and our democracy."

The US for all its faults, has numerous checks and balances for going to war or any nuke` attacks. This will pass shortly and ` politics will resume as usual. So far nothing in the last ten years has come close to the decade of the 60's here in the US. We survived that and we get by this bump in thhe road as well. The big difference is the social media which feeds off of stuff like this along with the lame stream media which knows no bounds or limits to the misinformation they put out.

On a grammatical note, I would usually dignify the title of your head of state with a capital letter.

I wouldn’t even dignify him with the word president anymore in any shape or form.
