"Argos" is way past her sell by date - over 40 years old.

The question is does she need replacing or would we be better buying something to replace the Bay class? What strikes me is that we have no trouble selling Bay class vessels when they reach the end of their RN lives

I'm not sure one can call a single example done through expediency (and nowhere near the end of her RFA life) "no trouble".

MRSS is allegedly the Bay/Albion replacement.

Especially as the current favourite, by quite a large margin, to be the new PM, is the current SoS.

Slovakia has ordered 152 new CV90 MK IV
The ministry said in a statement it has budgeted some €1.7 billion ($1.8 billion), including value-added tax (VAT), to procure the vehicles and cover related infrastructure costs. Officials said the contract’s final value could be higher and deliveries expected in 3 years.

Meanwhile we struggle on with the overweight and unusable Ajax

Proposal

Strangely, we had the ideal ship but got rid of it.

Is the British Army a “Reference Army”? Arguably No, it is Not

"The decision to retain Argus and modify her to act in the LSS role in rotation with the Bay class is something of a compromise." - well, yes...... tho I guess if you can keep B-52's in service for 60+ years buffing up Argos is possible. Keep the good folks of Falmouth happy anyway

The Integrated Review, Defence in a Competitive Age and the Defence and Security Industrial Strategy

This is a House of Commons Committee report, with recommendations to government. The Government has two months to respond.

These sort of reports come out every couple of years - and they always make the same points

The Govt either ignores them or make promises that "things will change" - but they never do

Britain is buying 500 dismounted Javelin missile launchers.

It’s already buying 200+ Kongsberg RS4 weapon stations that can also fire Javelin.

That’s a massive investment in anti-tank capability. Massive. And we’ll have air and ground launched Brimstone.

Sir Humphrey:

The UK has issued its new National Strategy for Maritime Security - this is an important subject that is well worth a read.

PSL blog is up on why it matters and whether the RN needs ships or capabilities in future, particularly for survey ships...

Thought provoking thread…..

This tweet, in one photos, demonstrates why Western airborne & amphibious power projection forces are obsolete as now designed.🧵…..

First photos of a 🇹🇷Turkish TB-2 UCAV at the Niamtougou Airport, 🇹🇬Togo. Another one to the list...

UK, Poland to pool missile development for their land, naval forces

LONDON and WARSAW, Poland — Britain and Poland are investigating possible cooperation in the development of a surface-launched, long-range missile in the latest step towards strengthening their ties in the defense sector.

The two nations announced their intention to take a look at forming a partnership at the end of a visit Oct. 5 to Poland by British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace for talks with his Polish counterpart, Mariusz Błaszczak…….

NEW: Chancellor @Jeremy_Hunt opens up the possibility of @trussliz ditching a pledge to increase defence spending to 3% of national income by 2030. It’s unclear how @BWallaceMP would want to stay on as Defence Secretary if military funding doesn’t grow as much as promised.🧵
