If you have rejoined the Service post 1 April 2017 and your previous service was as a Professional Aviator, you will have been placed on RRP(F) probably Tier 2 rate 4, the maximum anyone was allowed to start on. However, a good read of JSP 754(if that’s possible) section 4 shows that PAS officer aircrew returning to the career stream will have their time spent on PAS added to their counter to ensure the correct rate of RRP is paid. This is done by a calculation by DBS and in my case was 3 years so I expected to jump straight to rate 7, anyone else think this? I know I am not alone as there are apparently several cases in front of the Single Service Pay Colonel but progress there is glacial and I have yet to have an explanation as to why my understanding is incorrect.
It it would be useful to know how many of us are affected by this, the potential underpayment is in the thousands over the 3 years it takes to reach rate 7. Don’t just take my word for it, read the DIN and JSP 754 and make your own mind up. PMs fine if you don’t want to acknowledge publicly.

The DIN from 2017 (I think it’s 01-050) is quite explicit on this, in that on 1 Apr 17 you would have transitioned onto Tier 2 Rate 4. Even for PAS, as you would be deemed to be on enhanced rate by then. That qualifying date of 1 Apr 17 is key here as time has now moved on. So, if you joined after 1 Apr 18 then you should be on Tier 2 Rate 5 and if you joined after 1 Apr 19 then you should be on Tier 2 Rate 6. Only joiners after 1 Apr 20 would go to Tier 2 Rate 7.

Myra, but the DIN seems pretty clear to me and surely you have just misinterpreted it? Not sure how a Service Complaint is going to help as they will just consider if the policy has been applied? Anyway, our discussing it keeps bouncing it back up the top! I doubt thatt many would be affected anyway, as it would likely only apply to a very few FTRS and even fewer PAS re-joiners? Even then how many would have had it incorrectly applied?
I know there have been a couple of officer aircrew overpaid when RRP(F) changed in 2017 and have recently been presented with a ‘public debt’ on their pay statements. That’s not nice when it happens but it is always up to us to check our pay statements carefully (I’ve been doing that for a while now).

I rejoined last year having left some years ago on PA level 32. I was put back on level 32 with my seniority adjusted by the number of years and days that I was out of the Service. Also, despite being at Flt Lt I have 'grandfathers' rights' to continue to climb the PA spine. I was required to join AFPS 15, and will receive as additional pension to supplement my AFPS 05 pension. It is advantageous because my 'career' average for this portion of my service will effectively be a final salary throughout my time as a rejoiner.
kintyred - there are a few of us ex-PAS who have rejoined on PAS (usually as Flt Lt aircrew in a flying tour). I think the issue here is for those ex-PAS not rejoining on those terms i.e. rejoining into the career stream with the associated Retention Pay (Flying). I'd guess to allow them to rejoin at a rank where PAS is no longer valid (Wg Cdr?).

Maybe the wrong place to ask this... but if re-joining and already in receipt of my AFPS75 pension am I right that re-joining as a regular I still receive my pension (albeit abated if I exceed the previous salary I was on when combining new pay and pension)? Trying to get through to JPAC to ask but waiting for them to ring me back! Thanks!

Correct, albeit RRP is not assessed in the calculation. It will also depend on how long ago you left as there is a CPI adjustment made to what was your wage as you left when they do the calculation. Important as pay rises in the years you were out will not have matched CPI I'm guessing. Looking at the historical data a £1 in 2011 is now worth £1.16 as there has been a 15.9% rise in CPI index since mid 2011
