Music & Magic from Wartime Malta

In November 2018 over the days either side of Remembrance Day, a remarkable pocket musical will be performed in London and Winchester. The play ‘Star of Strait Street’ celebrates the life of Christina Ratcliffe BEM - her love for the renowned RAF recce pilot Adrian ‘Six-medal’ Warburton’ - and the astonishing contribution of the British and Maltese girls who worked in the RAF HQ at Lascaris, Malta.

On the Applecart Arts booking site there is a 2-3 minute trailer about the show.

I saw two performances of this first-class musical stage play in Malta. Great theatre, great performances, amusing, and deeply moving.

Most strongly recommended.

If you get the chance I can highly recommend a trip to the Lascaris War Rooms too.

I most strongly second the recommendation about the Lascaris War Rooms.

Refurbished and continually being extended into previously closed off tunnels, the enthusiastic staff work hard to make this important part of Maltese and British history come alive. The War Rooms beneath Upper Barracca Gardens which overlook Valletta's Grand Harbour are full of atmosphere and are a must for anyone who has an interest in wartime history.

I would also strongly recommend the Malta Aviation Museum at the former RAF fighter base at Ta 'Qali,

Lascaris on the agenda for our next visit (Apr 19), and we're staying just a few hundred yards away.

T'Qali we did in 09. A bit untidy, but some interesting 'bits' stowed in the Work in Progress back room when I was there. https://www.maltaaviationmuseum.com/...ea-venom-faw22

Frankly the whole Malta experience is an absolute must for anyone interested in not just WW2 history, but older history too. That said the National War Museum at Fort St Elmo in Valletta was absolutely first rate when I visited a couple of years ago.

Cant rate the island highly enough!
