Interesting to see they never went north of Shawbury, I am sure the Lynx were based somewhere in North Yorkshire.

In 1992 the Lynx AH9 (as-was, with RR Gem engines, some airframes built from new, others refurbed) was brought into service with two Squadrons of a re-formed 9 Regiment AAC at a refurbished Dishforth Airfield, formerly RAF Dishforth.

Well, they made it to long-closed Oakington so I'm sure they'd have loved to have managed Dishforth too. And Soest, and Detmold, and sundry other locations around the world. Unfortunately one of the Lynx's main difficulties was always managing payload (in the case of the Mk1, 8 empty TOW tubes was pushing it some days) vs range. Dishforth was probably just that bit too far.

I don't know where you got that idea. The pre publicity might have said a five-ship, but four were crewed, four started and four flew (all the way around), led by the special scheme...
All of the information - including that passed to MW, was of a 5-ship and that the lead had a very special paint job. 4 turned up, flew past and landed at Wallop for a photo op and departed later and none of them had what could be described as a special paint job.

One person who was supposed to be in the 5th one, was watching from outside the crewroom at MW.

Perhaps we were expecting something like the 'tiger-tail' that we had before and had our expectations poorly managed.

The lead had a Lynx 'tail paint job' by the look of it, and I'm sure one had a Halo, being the mount of 'the saviour of Army Avn'?
