Hi Nutty, how you doing?
Just noted the thread on plastic jags.
They were made by Specialised Mouldings in Huntingdon. My old boss (who was with me last night at RAeS lecture) helped them out. He certainly did the tonka undercarriage. It collapsed when towed for the first time at Farnborough ( may have been 1978) had a plastic barrel in the nose full of water.
They made several replicas. I worked there for a few months modifying the harrier ground running sim to add weapons pylons and test kit for training armourers. Put a vibrating motor in the seat pan to simulate an engine surge. That was fun with he girls in the office.

I am fine Drag,
The "It's not a Jag, and we will not refer to it as a Jag, it's a simulated engine ground running rig at Halton" that looked like a Jag, felt like a Jag, was powered by a replica Adour and had a cockpit layout of a Jag..
That had a motor under the seat for vibration, on one of the courses when I was there, the motor burnt out and the guy doing the simulated run was so concentrating on what he was doing, he was trying to waft the smoke out of the way to read the gauges lol, before it was pointed out to the instructor it was possibly on fire.
Bruggen the map was on the wall? as they used to stick those big monsters (you could get for kids to put on the end of their pencils) down an unsuspecting valley for the unwary pilot.

I actually placed a rubber monster on the large scale model (in the Wye valley). The fans that kept the camera lights cool made the monster wave its arms. Frightened the life out of some young students
"Mildly" Eccentric Stardriver
I never saw it personally, but I believe there was a very large rubber spider that straddled the runway on the Herc sim at Thorney. Break cloud at 200' and.....

I left Makurdi, Nigeria in 1990 and, as far as I know, the simulator is still in the building - never to be used again. The main frame computer (SEL 32/77) had stopped working (environment too dusty and hot) and the Intel computer driving the Image II had over heated. 2 years site work to no avail !!!

If we found any large spiders in the sim building, we would capture them and let them loose on the weapons delivery model. It looked like a bad Hollywood movie at 420Kts & 500ft! I spent quite a few hours repainting the fields and replacing burnt out lamps on the sim at Coltishall

I worked on a sim for a small fast jet trainer, and one of the test pilots told a story about finding real creepy crawlies on the map first thing on a Monday morning when the sim had been quiet all weekend. The software guys responsible for the "map" and terrain snuck a 100 foot replica down a valley somewhere which the test pilot then found on a low level exercise. He was impressed......

One of the original model boards is on display as part of the Coltishall Heritage Exhibition housed within the Battle of Britain Hall at Badersfield, the old Colt married quarters, the building is the original 1940 church.
