PUTIN AT SOLCHI

Good to see Vladimir Putin clearly enjoying the Russian Grand Prix at Solchi today - his friendship towards the winners looked very genuine.

One wonders whether Barack Obama will be there to hand out the prizes at the US Grand Prix in Austin in 2 weeks time - without dozens of security goons in black suits and sunglasses surrounding him.

Although he might arrive in Marine One, the level of ground and air security which seems to be deemed necessary to protect the POTUS would probably rule out his attendance. I gather some 95 helicopters were needed when GeeDubya flew to Iraqistan or wherever.

Vlad seems to accept much less in the way of security, as did Gorbachev. When 4 x Il-62 brought him to chat with Maggie at Brize Norton, the KGB team were whisked off to have lunch in the Gateway, rather than lurking around in black shades scowling at people. But did we really hate the KGB that much that we made them eat in Gateway House....

Not sure Obama will do Texas, whenever I have been in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in the last few years, he didn't sound too popular.

By the way where is Solchi?

Who knows, but Obama's opponents and journalists are probably safe from being suddenly murdered.

I'm surprised Putin didn't win the GP, and was pictured on the podium receiving the champagne. He's usual pictured winning whatever he takes part in. Mind you, driving F1 shirtless could be a bit cold.
