Three airframes isn't much of a force. In fact, that's not even enough to train aircrew and maintenance/service personnel, so PAF will be dependent on China for some time. But it does get China's foot further in the door inside Pakistan. And it may provide Chinese folks the opportunity to get a good look at other aircraft Pakistan owns, like say, Mirages and F-16s.

From Asia Times Online, 2002:
Chinese engineers developed the J-10 from a single F-16 provided by Pakistan, and with assistance from Israeli engineers associated with Israel's US-financed Lavi fighter program, which was canceled in 1987, according to the Federation of American Scientists website.
