RAF Bird Colonel ?
RAAF P-3C aircraft commander is called a Captain by the Beeb
If anyone's watching the BBC1 news just now, about the RAAF contribution to searching for the missing Malaysian Airlines 777, the film crew on board one of the P-3C classed the aircraft commander whose prob a Sqn Ldr or Wing Cdr as a Captain in the RAAF

Depends.
Did you make the transition to the USAF in 1947 or stay Army?
If the former, then yes.
If the latter, then you'd have to change your wings back to the US Army aviator insignia.
Rank would stay the same.
We even give our navs a full set of wings instead of the half wing. But we have a thing for the underdog, I guess...
As to those haruumphing about US personel not recognizing RAF rank, there is that little matter of exposure. Is it more likely for a USAF type to run into an RAF'er, or is the reverse more likely? Hence the practical decoder method illustrated here.
But, it isn't too hard to decode RAF rank as it is the same as Navy, either RN or USN. Or Starfleet for that matter...
As to British Army, I admit to cluelessness. I'm sure I either did not salute some colonel or did salute some corporal while in Germany some years back.

We only salute Superiors anyway, which leaves the Brits out in the Cold. Silly Sods can't figure out their own insignia let alone ours.
Get them to explain some thing simple like Head Gear and Hat Badges sometime.
Do remember to bring a comfy chair and something cold to drink as you will be there a while while they blather on.

Have to disagree somewhat.
The ones that can take the mickey of themselves are priceless. The ones that can only 'tut, tut' about "the colonials" do fit your description.
In my experience, the former vastly (relatively speaking since it is the RAF) outnumber the latter.
And may I remind those that would speak "he who shall not be named" moniker, if you say it three times in the same thread, he reappears.
We did not like "Skeletor." Self-aggrandizing pr1ck who thought the rules didn't apply to him. The uniform change mentioned was just one such ridiculous fiasco. Did we really need to go to the time, expense, and trouble that caused?
But I am glad to usually have the RAF on our side.

Are you sure they didn't mean it as Captain of the aircraft, as opposed to First Pilot?

From the above link
Poor old Russ - what a bummer, he must be thinking "Why didnt I become a model instead of just being a pilot?"
'In another country, he’d be a model. In Australia, he's just Russell Adams... pilot', according to news.com.au (my italics)

What's the matter BoudreauxBob? Did you get turned down for a three year secondment to the RAF? Must have been something terrible for you to be so bitter!
Pity poor Russell Adams - Think how much the slabbing is going to cost him,
with just the chance there might be a little light banter directed at him!
" All pilots could have been models" - most I know would do well as display dummies in shop windows.

It's self-preservation to know who you need to chuck one up for.

In the Army, it used to be if you got yourself on TV you shouted the bar,
not too sure how the RAAF run things.
But yes, I am sure he and others will cop a fair bit of banter

I'm naiively assuming that the chap is engaged on flying duties - otherwise why would he be wearing a flying suit?
