But why are there 2 x 617 Sqn Lancs? Would have been nice to have seen a 9 or 12 Sqn example. But what, hey ho! Its all about the Dambusters and youth today, isn't it?

On April's picture, the inverted Gnat shows no flying control surface deflection. Would that be normal for the real aeroplane in that attitude?

No, but perfectly fine for a plastic one.

GBZ.
The control surfaces can be neutral at any attitude for a short time at least.

They can't legally sell them in Germany with a swastika. On the decal sheet they still have them but it's in two pieces and has to be assembled.

I haven't made model aircraft for many years now - when I did insignia and other painting details were on transfers! I assume decals are an American invention.

Nice though the pictures are, they are hardly representative of the quality of the models Airifx sell...it's no coincidence that Airfix changed their box design from a photo of the model inside to a painting. So many other companies produce better quality kits, and very few aircraft types are unique to Airfix in kit form.

Have you built a recent Airfix model? They're very good, and great value for money! They also make plenty of unique aircraft, just look at the latest release, a 1:24 scale Hawker Typhoon!

Torque

Has the quality dropped from times past, both in the finish
and the "fitting together" ?

Who was the "other" major maker of models pre 1980 ?

I thought it started with a "B".

Having resumed my airfix kit making due to two air-minded sons, having not done so since my teens, I can vouch that quality now is excellent, perhaps better than first time round. Only negative is the transfers (I apologise for americanising into decals) which aren't as good.

Revell was t'other one

Does no one see the utterly inappropriate nature of this thread. It doesn't even belong on jetblast.

Oh dear. More Tylenol to table 12 please...

All the kits I did referred to them as Decals.

Agaricus bisporus

What is wrong with airfix or any kit models ?

A fair few on here would have made them as kids.
Or probably if interested as above made them with own kids.
And now probably grand children as well if like minded.

I'm not a pilot but if ever I was on a RAAF base always aircraft models on desks, from airfix to the metal ones.

Nearly 50% of that calender are modern jets, the rest historical aircraft
bar the Helo and the Soldiers ?

Can't see what the problem is.

I think you need to read the 'tag line' of this particular forum in PPRuNe... "A forum for the professionals who fly the non-civilian hardware, and the backroom boys and girls without whom nothing would leave the ground. Army, Navy and Airforces of the World, all equally welcome here."

It says it is forum FOR the people listed, nowhere does it say what subject matter the conversations should be limited to

What a childish thing to say; perhaps Agaricus has picked a few magic mushrooms by accident. What a ****head!
