LIONS TOUR

On the somewhat thin basis that many military aircrew follow Rugby, can someone explain how we can have the justified hysteria over Murray's win, but the BBC can get through at least 2 main news bulletins without even mentioning the British Lions' match and series win in Australia. Well done the Lions.

They consider it an elitest sport played by Private schools and so
it doesn't fit the Left wing socialist agenda.

Just ask Krystal & Chips

As with speedway and angling*, all the participants are oiks.

*or Right wing aristocracy, so the BBC are never invited, no matter how many DGs get knighthoods.

I think there are a number of reasons why...firstly the whole Wimbers scene is far more PR savvy than the Lions circus - you can't move on Centre Court for tripping over the handbags of Elton John, Cliff Richard et al...!

Secondly the Beeb probably confused this Lions squad with a Welsh touring team that doesn't justify any air time - particularly as it might detract from the public anointing of Sir Andy Murray....

Sorry, I meant "Public school" as they are known in the UK.

Over here in Aus it is the other way round.

It's probably more of a time thing, where has there been a win more recently, a Lions tour in Aus, or a British player at Wimbledon? That's your answer in short. Besides which, it's no huge upset for a team of players made up of nations who frequently beat Australia on their own, to get the best ones together and do it as a "best of" team.
Froome was even more impressive than any of them today, had to leave his whole team behind over 4 category 1 climbs and keep up with a whole raft of Movistar riders looking to break him. A more impressive ride than even yesterday, but he didn't rate a single mention on the news.
Anyway the Lions were all over the BBC news this morning, so they did get a good swathe of coverage... kind of old news by tonight.

Cycling is still in PR recovery mode after all the drug abuse, hence the lack of publicity. I would have thought that Brits were winning was evidence enough that the worst abuses were over, but there we are.

More to do with the BBC having the broadcasting rights to the tennis.

Sky had the rugby hyped from here to Wagga Wagga.
