Hence my specific choice of wording - 'Guards Division' not 'Foot Guards'. The London Regiment has been part of the Guards Division since 2004.
As for the Earl's choice of London Regiment uniform - I'm guessing that he is spoilt for choice as each of the Regiment's companies has its own cap badge. I'm not sure why he seems to prefer that of A(London Scottish) Company.

Possibly because Hodden Grey (that's the name for that sort of pink kilt) was the tartan of the original London Scottish regiment. Only know because in a very proud day in about 1960 my school pipe band in which I was a lowly drummer beat the London Scottish band in the Open Pipe Band Competition t the highland games at Harpenden - they were not best please at being beaten by "a bunch of school kids"

Gentleman Aviator
One hates to be picky about uniform protocol (a lie - one rather enjoys it! ), but this picture from the Buck House balcony at the Trooping flypast in 2009 shows Prince William in RAF and Tim Laurence in RN uniforms.
Surely the rules for the Trooping haven't changed that recently??

Admiral Tim was still serving in 2009 - he retired in August 2010, and Prince William's Royal Colonel appointment was a Wedding Present from Granny in 2012 (along with the Dukedom!) - allegedly to stop him getting wed as a Flt Lt!
Not sure that addresses the assertion from Climebear that:
And of course any retired officer can still wear uniform on ceremonial occasions.
I think I'll go with the fact that D of Y can't get into his No 1 any more - it's a common failing!

IIRC the only uniforms worn by members of the Royal family were those of the Guards Division or Household Cavalry. The Duke of York does not hold any honorary appointments within the Guards Division or Household Cavalry.

Continuing in the sentiment of the thread, it was really nice to see how genuinely happy HM was over her victory at Ascot yesterday. When you consider the mind-numbing tedium of a lot of her duties that she nevertheless carries on dutifully at an age when many have long since settled for slippers and daytime TV, it is good to see her really enjoying herself.
No doubt the chattering classes will resent her participation in what is an elite sport (as an owner that is) but I say good luck to her
