MEADS: any European Air Defenders Familiar?

MEADS International, Inc. - The Medium Extended Air Defense System

Gents, I have been out of NATO for too many years to have a good sense of the MEADS program, which looks to be related to various theater air defense projects I worked on as a NATO staff officer back in the 90's.

There were programs aimed at TBM, there was that grand behemoth ACCS program that was into the billions of NATO Economic Units for a Europe Wide air command and control system, and there were various link architecture programs developing a coherent air picture for low, med, and high flying targets/threats.

The US Congress has just pulled nearly half a billion out of MEADS. A bit of a slap to the Italians and Germans who were in the program, it seems to me. Was that program alive and well, or was it one of those FUBAR'd messes so common in NATO?

Any of you guys familiar with the program?
