USAF Deploy F-22 Raptors to Gulf
Ares: Raptors in the Sandbox
As tensions between Iran and the U.S. and Israel continue to mount over the former’s pursuit of nuclear weapons technologies, the U.S. has quietly begun a deployment of its premier stealthy fighter, the twin-engine F-22, to the nearby United Arab Emirates.
Multiple of the Lockheed Martin aircraft will operate out of Al Dhafra Air Base there, say industry sources. This is the same base from which U-2s and Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicles have been launched since shortly after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
“The United States Air Force has deployed F-22s to Southwest Asia,” according to a statement from service spokesman Capt. Phil Ventura. “Such deployments strengthen military-to-military relationships, promote sovereign and regional security, improve combined tactical air operations and enhance interoperability of forces, equipment and procedures.” Ventura declined to specify what the aircraft's mission is for this deployment.
Because of the F-22’s supercruise – or high, efficient rate of speed – stealth, thrust-vectoring and inherent intelligence-collection capabilities, it is considered the most sophisticated fighter in the world. Deploying it to any region causes occupants there to take note. says one industry official.
The timing of the deployment could be a signal from Washington to Iran to take seriously objections to the latter’s nuclear weapons ambitions.

Isn't this a redeployment? Weren't Raptors there for months and months until quite recently?
Above Top Secret: F22 Raptor forward deployed to UAE, interesting mix of hardware here now...
Reports are the Air Forces top air superiority fighter has been forward deployed to the United Arab Emirates' Al Dafra Air Base. Air Force spokesperson Lt. Col. John Dorrian said that because of the F-22's next-generation capabilities, any number of planes deployed to the region is "significant."
Looking at a recent satellite image (24.248056,54.5475) of Al Dafra Air Base reveals some interesting hardware on the tarmac, including;
12 KC-10 Extenders
5 AWACS (one is airborne at time of snapshot)
U-2
Rivet Joint
What appears to be a lone F15E.........

Isn't the lack of Link 16 an issue regarding the deployment of the F22 outside the USA?

But isn't the lack of Link 16 an issue when operating with other aircraft etc within a potentially multinational force?

Talking about the F22, I'm surprised the OBOGS issue is still a point of worry.
I tought this was solved a couple of months ago?

Nope.
They made some procedural changes which reduced the frequency and severity of incidents, but incidents are still occuring.
Despite nearly all USAF & USN-USMC fighters being equipped with the same OBOGS system, only the F-22 is experiencing these problems in anything other than "extremely infrequent" numbers!

Is deploying this aircraft more about justifying its existence as opposed to a military requirement?
Please note this is a question as I have read numerous critical reports about this aircraft and its lack of seeing 'front line' service.

Not a pilot, or even in the military, but came across this - Some pilots want to avoid F-22 | tyndall, florida - Air Force leader - The News Herald
As an asthma sufferer I know what 'oxygen-deprived' feels like.
Just don't understand how this can happen in a supposedly high technology industry.
