Anyone know of an exercise going on near Culdrose?

For the last 2 days a pair of H-60 Seahawks have been running out of Culdrose and tonight from 1900 - 2200 an F-18 Hornet has been "on station" above Culdrose ok it might be more than one F-18 (fuel consumption etc etc) but as Culdrose has been decididly quiet for the last few months it does seem weird
p.s. if ive posted this in the wrong section please move Admin TY.

oops answered myself
  • EXERCISE SAXON WARRIOR - 19 MAY - 26 MAY 11
Exercise SW11 is a joint UK / US Navy exercise supported by NATO allies and will provide continuation training to the USS George H W Bush Carrier Group during its visit to UK prior to deployment to support operations in Afghanistan. SW11 is being conducted 19-26 May 2011. The Exercise has been planned by RAF and Naval personnel from the Joint Tactical Exercise planning Staff (JTEPS) based at Northwood HQ, London. They are augmented by additional service personnel to provide an appropriate level of specialist support and to assist with exercise safety

And seeing those F-18s circling around certainly livened up an otherwise dull Sunday evening.

There were also pairs of F-18's orbiting Chivenor on Sunday evening from 7ish till after dark, and again today. Never, ever seen fast jets over this area on a Sunday evening before!

I can hear at least one pair overhead as I type this. The wind is still pretty strong, must make carrier ops interesting...

Point taken.

I should have used inverted commas around the offending phrase - and avoided posting in haste after the pub.

Ref the Med level Hornet near Aberporth on Friday evening, you must have missed the one at low level doing a SoF whilst his lead was at medium level. The best SoF in training I've seen - he was so low that we thought he was going to hit the hill for a split second! His lead didn't sound impressed though . Made for a great video though .

FAST jets heard in the night skies over North Devon this week were part of a major military exercise coinciding with US President Barack Obama's visit to the UK and Ireland.
