Piccies bring back fond memories of my last two years in uniform. A comfortable seat, 950 hours including some pleasant European excursions, and exemptions from the CAA towards a licence - bargain!

My late father flew Dominies at the RAF College of Air Warfare, the aircraft being based at Strubby. He first flew them in March 1966 and RAFCAW had XS 710,732,733,734,735 and 736 on strength initially. Sad to see it go but what an incredible service to the RAF these machines have given.

Sad to see the Dominie has now gone. I will miss watching them circuit bashing at Waddington when I'm up that part of the country.
Although they only bought 20 aircraft, it must be one of only a few training aircraft to have served for such a long period without ever suffering a single loss during its career.
Hopefully, the survivors will find new homes and not end up in the smelter.

Bye Bye Dominie
Cracking flypast today at Cranwell - right on time over the massed TV and specialist press.
Compliments to all on D Flt for a display of formation flying the Reds would have been proud of.
Thanks too to the Serco guys for getting all the jets servicable (especially the one we broke last week at Waddo)
CS
NB. Should be on Look North and Calendar tonight.

Just watched the Calendar VT, think the room got very dusty suddenly.
Well done to all involved, very evocative.
And an even better VT on Look North, glad I've got Sky and could watch these pieces.

"The Hawker Siddeley Dominie. Surely it was bought as the DH125?"
Hawker Siddeley acquired De Havilland Aircraft in 1960, the year before the 125 project was started. However the old legacy name and the 'DH' designation was used during the development phase of the project. After the aircraft went into full production (the first customer airframe was delivered in September 1964, the first Dominie XS709 'M' being delivered on 30 Dec 1964), the name was changed to 'HS 125'.
Sad to see them go, I really enjoyed my 1000+ hours on type.

Well, that's the black painted ones gone. Good job they've still got the white ones in a secret airbase near London.
