Just a little aside for you light blue people. It is a tradition of the Senior Service that on certain ceremonial occaisions The Ship's company will be refered to as "Duncans" the CO as Duncan. A couple of years back two boats held ceremonial divisions on consecutive days, to make life easy for the CT Staff and band. Parade number one , HMS Torbay went with out a hitch. The Parade being called smartly attention at the cry of "Torbay Approaching." The following parade briefly disolved into farce as the CO of HMS Talent arrived on the Saluting Base.
Not so sure that I would have wanted to serve on H.M.S. Gay Cavalier, Gay Archer or the other "GAY" class patrol boats of the fifties.

A previous Daring class ship was known as HMS DECOY.
And what about the USN Amphip USS PONCE? I imagine many a fight when she tied up at ports around the world.
Imagine a dunken yank sailor getting into a Guz taxi and saying "Take me to the Ponce."
Millbay Road anyone?

I don't own this space under my name. I should have leased it while I still could
I'm not so sure about that. There's a good photo of a flotilla (or whatever the collective noun is) of 'Gay' boats here: BMPT Forum: Early Day’s of HMS Gay Archer and it looked to have been epic fun belting about in those little war canoes back then!
Given that they were used as fast training boats into the 70s trying to slip in to a surface force you can hear them now, "Where are you M.........?"
