If it's as good as it could be given the material, it could be unwatchable in company..

The book is one of the best. The part where he gets lost over the north sea under very low cloud is scary. I met him a year or so ago and he signed my copy of First Light - this program is a must see.

As I posted elsewhere, lets hope the Beeb doesn't cock it up by changing it to appeal to their perceived dumb audience.

I've been looking forward to this for some time. I really hope it lives up to the book.
I won't be watching it with such critical eyes as many on here will - I want to see the story unfold - not disect the age, usage and whereabouts of the artifacts that remain available for filming.

Geoffrey Wellum was on the BBC local news this lunchtime being interviewed about the programme and he is of the opinion that this is the most accurate portrayal of the Battle of Britain he has seen, including the 1969 film, so hopefully your fears will be groundless, Green Granite.

And there is another program for the hour before, BBC2, 20:00, about the Wellington bomber, which sounds interesting (includes a propaganda film made in 1940 about building a Wellington from scratch in 24 hours).

BBC4 is a better bet at 20:00

Watched that Docudrama, and the most shocking thing was the postscript, explaining tha the had a complete nervous breakdown, having returned to combat duting the siege of Malta, aged 20.

20.

I thought the book was brilliant. Glad to see the Beeb did it / him / them proud. Total respect.

Feel somewhat humbled having watched that.. wonder if we will still be here to reflect on heros such as him in 70 years time?

Absolutely superb. Closing comments hard to read without lump in throat - nervous breakdown at age 20?

Humbling. What I find hard to grasp is that when he arrived on 92 he was one month older than my little boy is now.

Excellent production.. The BBC should be proud of that.
