Lightning looking for a new home

The owner of Lightning T-5 XS456 is looking for offers for his aircraft, which is on display in Skegness. One problem is that it has to be moved by mid-May. 456 looks to be in good condition and is complete.

I'm sure there must be a former Lightning pilot who has a few pounds to spare and some space in his back garden?

Have you contacted the Lightning Preservation Group at Bruntingthorpe? they might be able to help with the dismantling and moving process.

I wonder if its wing was cut when it was moved from Binbrook or not?

I would love to see it go to a good home having grown up not far from whats left of poor old Binbrook, which is rather ironically the only UK RAF base with its Q shed still in use. If only by the farmer!

It's not in Skegness - it's at The Elms Driving Range in Wainfleet - probably throw in a free bucket of balls on the range!

The wings were chopped at Binbrook for it to be roaded to the golf driving range at Wainfleet. It is visible from the A52 Boston-Skeggie road.

Our holding officer at RAF Woodvale (Liverpool UAS) is in the process of trying to find a gate guard, I'll point him in your direction.

Regards,
Matt.

What happened to the F4? That can tell some stories.

Anywhere is better than nowhere (or scrapman!) ... but did Liverpool UAS have much history operating Lightnings?

56 Sqn at Waddington are also now aware; they've been after a gate guard for some time. Given that the aircraft started life with them, it would seem fitting that it ended up there!!

MM
