I seem to recall some Chipmunks were converted for crop spraying and this looks remarkably similar.
Apologise if this has already been noted elsewhere.

Bit late coming to this thread, but, TF looked like that when resident at Clevelands (RIP) along with "Charlie X ", the latter painted red / white and almost the personal aircraft of the late Colin Walker ( RIP mate), top tug pilot and person...also noted for his ability to clear a hangar when farting.

My dad always finished parking the car with "Switches off, Gas Off. Tail wheel locked" Seemed a bit extreme for a 1950 Minor.

From the ground crew side (just front cockpit occupant) - circa 1980

''Engine Primed,Breech Loaded,Cowlings Secured,Rear Switches On'' (then slide canopy forward to within pilots grasp)
Obviously if a Dual Flight we did not do the rear switches

I guess the actual wording may have varied at different units (I was at Abingdon 1980-83)

Pilot: Fuel On Brakes On Throttle Closed Switches Off.
Groundcrew: Breech Inserted Cowling Secure Rear Switches On Clear To Start
Pilot: Contact (and advances throttle circa half an inch)
Groundcrew: Contact
Pilot: Crosses fingers and pulls the golf ball attached to the string which pulls the trigger which fires the cartridge which starts the engine

The above 'remembered' from my most enjoyable secondary duty on 9 AEF at RAF Finningley circa 1990.

I trained on AAC chipmunks and even after all this time, still remember the mnemonic I used for the start procedure sequence - SOGRIADA. But cannot remember the gist of it; "switches and oil first maybe .........?

which fires the cartridge which starts the engine
Armstrong method when I flew them. First solo in VH-BSP ex RAF WB622 serial C1-0063, also flew VH-UET ex WB551 serial C1-0003

Suspect the chap in the rear is instructor Jack Williams who was of very small stature, flew as a rear gunner in Lancasters engaged in spoofing during WWII.

Nice photo Megan. However VH-UET was C1-0126, ex WB678. It was written off following an engine failure on take off at Whyalla (having taken off on a taxiway) on 7.10.1962. A Neil Follett photo:

'G' was possibly an initial for 'Ground/Flight Switch'?

Going back to my Post #687:

To clarify, the DHC-1B-2-S5 (the last version of the Chipmunk built) was known in RCAF service as the Chipmunk T.30.
This is not correct! The "T.30" designation turns out to be a myth, stemming I suspect from a modelling magazine caption, and repeated (embarrassingly, by me too) ever since. Their RCAF designation was CT-120.

Manston AEF

My first flight was Air Experience 1992 with an ex RAF Vulcan Pilot and family friend, Peter Wallis, who tried his best to pull the wings off and make me vomit, neither of which luckily happened, but the memory of following through a clover leaf over Manston runway is etched on the brain. 9 hours air experience wasn't a bad total.

Does anyone have a photo of the AAC camed up chippy known as the Spitmunk or Chipfire used to teach FAC work?

The Wrekin had a Spitmunk at Cosford and I had a lovely picture of it plus the rest of the Wrekin GC fleet lined up for AOC’s inspection but unfortunately it did not survive one of our many moves, sorry.
