Introducing RAN Korean War Sea Fury pilot

I've run into an 80 year old Australian Korean War veteran who flew the Sea Fury from Australian aircraft carriers. This gentleman lives alone in the country town of Lameroo, South Australia.

Bob is a nice bloke and quite computer savvy. He became a mechanical engineer and spent 22 years working for Lloyds in environmental risk management before that area became 'popular'.

Rather than just suggest that he 'try PPRuNe', I thought I'd ask if anyone here knew of any Sea Fury pilots on PPRuNe so I could offer him a 'chaperone' who knew the ropes rather than suggest he just front up.

I think Wiley means that there is a thread in this part of PPRuNe ("Gaining an RAF Brevet in WWII...") on which there are some chums who have also contributed their experiences, and are even older than your chum!!

They might be willing to help your mate out??

I was taking off on a parallel runway at Parafield in the late 80s in a Cessna 210 and just got the gear up when Guido Zucoli's Sea Fury also just got airborne on the runway next to me and pulled away , made me feel like I was flying a duck in a headwind , what a beast

As a very small spark I recollect being taken to an airshow at Teeside, early 1970's I think, (once Middleton St George, now Tees Valley or somesuch rebranding bolleau) and saw the RNHF display. The Firefly and Fury departed together, the Firefly straight into his display whilst the Fury went eastbound, climbing hard. The Firefly concluded and there was a pause as we, well, felt, the approach of the Sea Fury. It emerged out of a long descent and absolutely snotted down the crowd line, pulling some big tip vorteces as he whipped it around at the end of the run. Never before or since have I seen anything with a fan on the front going so fast. Not surprised it was a MiG killer. Awesome
