Hi All,

This is the coolest thing I have seen so far this year. The Royal New Zealand Air Force flew one of its Boeing 757s to Antarctica's Pegasus Airfield, landing on the ice runway. Click HERE to read this article.

That 757 gets about a bit! It's the very same airframe that did the impressive display at Fairford for RIAT'09.

Had the pleasure of a chat with the Kiwi's in the Flight Center this year. They appeared to have an average age of 17 and nothing seemed impossible, a cracking bunch with a great attitude. They could probably land it on the moon or the ceiling, I'd bet they'd give it a go! Nice display guys and hope to see you next year.

C-141s did it in the 80s, so at least nowerdays more heavy jets can also do it too.

USAF C17 do it on a regular basis. They operate from Christchurch Deep Freeze Base, using a Kiwi Airmov team.

I seem to recall that an A319/320?? also do it to the Aussie Bases there, not sure who rents the jet to the Aussy Antarctic Crowd though.

A319 operates out of Hobart Tasmania to the ice. They have a couple of CASA 212's down there as well.
