Question Is"'Military Aircrew" what it used to be?

OK, this is probably going to raise some hackles and cause some lively debate but here goes!
Having been a regular viewer of this esteemed website for a number of years with occasional postings, I have noticed that in recent times (last 6 months or so) there seems to be a lot threads being posted which, at best, have a tenuous link to Mil Aviation and Aircrew (yes, I know what the forum says and that it invites the 'backroom' boys and girls etc).

I would imagine (and happy to be corrected) that most people come into this forum for information relating to "Military Aviation". It just seems to me that there is a whole plethora of posts of late that are just placed because they have some loose connection with the military. Nine times out of ten, they are posts of media articles which we all know are quite often inaccurate. This inevitably leads to debate, heated discussion and quite often descends into arguments and occasionally personal attacks. Does this not feed straight back into the hands of certain elements of the media who we know regularly read and extract snippets from these pages?

I am all for a healthy discussion and debate on a relevant topic but quite often it ends up so far left or right of field, the original topic is lost and it becomes a farce!

There are some fantastic threads in here that are informative and useful for anyone seeking the latest Mil aviation information and gossip. However, there also seems to be a growing amount of "let's all get fired up and outraged about a story that is in the papers (therefore must be true!)" threads. Would these not be more suitable in another forum. ie Jet Blast etc?

I would dare to say that although the Moderators keep an eye on the forum to make sure there is nothing illegal or damaging posted, they are not necessarily keen to move every thread otherwise they will be accused of overt censorship.

So, after all that, my question for the readership is:

Do you think the Mil Aviation forum has become too much of a general discussion and debating forum rather than an informative aviation one where
the professionals who fly the non-civilian hardware, and the backroom boys and girls without whom nothing would leave the ground.
can come to seek and swap relevant information?

Tin hat on, awaiting incoming!
*No smart alec answers about this being a discussion thread please, it is directly related to the forum title!

It would be nice for the 'Forum' to go back to it's earlier incarnation.

Basically, the 'chewing the fat in the Mess Bar at Happy Hour' style rather than the 'provocative and obvious seeking of gen' from journo's and the like.

But, it's not my 'train set', so..........

I seem to recall reading somewhere on this site that one of the reasons Danny started these forums was because he and many other pilots etc were so busy down the line that they rarely had a chance to get together and chew the cud. The same applies to Sqn crewrooms (I believe they are now dead) and so this forum community allows discussion on topics which would have been aired in the crew room in previous years to be flogged to death in cyberspace. Consequently any subject (which would have been discussed in the crew room) is, in my opinion, fair game.
Mind you it does allow old bu**ers like me to get a foot in the door with my accumulated irrelevence.

Ah Mick but if the rate of change is not constant then your premise is,in fact, erroneous. And as you have not defined said rate of change and it clearly changing all the time anyway then you will find that change is not the only constant.

Neither could rate of change for that matter either. Time is no constant either.

The only constant is TAXES.

Now, about my fee..?

And as the subject was brought up about crewroom banter - I have this wart on the end of willy, it is leaking pus and smells like dead kangaroos. In my old crewroom I would flop it out for us all to have an inspection - where do I do this now

(I know, cooler two weeks, lowering the tone)

Too much RAF (from an ex-RAF man).
Too much Afghanistan politics.
Still too much "mine's bigger/faster/noisier than your's".
Too many people writing before reading.
Too much arguing for the sake of arguing.

Too little humour.

It would certainly be a lot better if they banned (and subsequently dis-banded) the crabs. We need a few more 'We love Typhoon, but wish it could actually do something' threads. We also have to ditch the quite ridiculous premise that chaps with no stick, inhabitants of the cargo well, and the odd spanner wielder actually deserve opinions.

I think this forum has developed into a "Smoker's Crewroom" - the place where it doesn't matter what rank or trade you are - you have to chat to the other people stood in the room with you and enjoying the same thing.

And remember that we're on the "Professional" Pilots' Rumour Network and we're all using a thread stuffed away in a corner of the "Other" Aircrew Forums section. Doesn't that tell you something?

Yeah, or alternatively we could sell a carrier to the Indians, cancel the other, disband the navy and absorb the Marines into the RAF Regiment.
The only losers would be Iranians wanting a second hand iPod.

See, Ive got a baited hook too!

I'm sorry MGD... The Regiment don't want the Booties... Too much naked time in bars and sexual assault on male sailors for a Rock's taste.

Give the Booties to the Army - 3 Para would love them - and they do iPods...

Other than that, you hook looks tasty...

That's as maybe....but what about the speed cameras on the A40? Surely they are a hazard to flight safety?

The main problem is people posting replies before reading what has been written previously.

Is that the impetuosity of youth or the arrogance of the old?

I think that this forum, as with others, would be improved immensurably if people would check to see what has been written or discussed previously before posting replies.
