Military Aviation A forum for the professionals who fly military hardware. Also for the backroom boys and girls who support the flying and maintain the equipment, and without whom nothing would ever leave the ground. All armies, navies and air forces of the world equally welcome here.

Sorry to ask this.

I friend of mine, who is an army cadet instructor, tells me that in the last week he saw what he thought was a hind flying over the Avonmouth area (near Bristol).

He says, he does not think it was an Apache, or merlin/puma, and that it had a chin turret. I asked him if it was in raspberry ripple colours, but he said it was dark/green.

Can anyone help on this matter, or supply any further info. Sorry to be so vague on this, but despite him regularly travelling in military helicopters, his aircraft recognition is not too good (he often rings me with descriptions, so that I can tell him what he has just seen!)

Thanks in advance

FYI, there was a Hind parked up at Dunsfold recently. (I saw it in the background whilst watching a relatively new episode of Top Gear).

No idea what it was doing there or who it was with but it could've been that one, I guess. Maybe try asking over on the Spotters' forum. They seem to know where and when most aircraft in this country are.

HTH.

The one a Dunsold will be doing well to get airborne without an engine!
It is there as a film prop and sadly it's flying days are behind it.

There have been visiting US vessels in the UK. Possibly an SH-60B fitted with nose sensor turret?

Some Royal Navy Lynx also have nose sensor turrets

Hey look

A capable troop lifter with I/R countermeasures and bolt on cockpit armour. Loads available NOW and very cheap. Handy for a one off operation where you could leave them behind say, to help any new regime that might be trying to defend itself!
