How did you miss, Norm?! ODS PAVE Spike weapons system video

Interesting YouTube video. Looks like a C-130.

Looks like Norman missed out on his free bourbon and coke!

He didn't miss!!! Aircraft on the ground is indeed a C-130, a Kuwaiti Air Force one serial number KAF322, nicked by the Iraqi's and based at Shayka Mazhar. The attacking aircraft was Buccaneer XX901 which on the 27th February 1991 released two Paveway II's that successfully guided into the Herc, but failed to explode. One of the bomb's however damaged the aircraft beyond economic repair, hence the aircraft was destroyed. Details at Operation 'Granby' - Buccaneer 'Gulf War' Missions History

Bought one of those gun camera videos after the gulf war, very interesting viewing. One thing that always puzzled me, and if it is no great secret, what does the cross represent? Is it the direction of travel of the weapons, the spiking aircraft or something else?

Dan

The cross indicates the direction of travel of the designating/lasing aircraft relative to the azimuth of the pod.

The Pave Tack of the F-111F and more modern systems (LANTIRN, Litening II and Sniper) use a small square that provides the same function...
