Requesting Waiver of Reserve Service
Hopefully someone from the Admin/HR empire can confirm this for me.
I need to get a waiver, releasing me from any obligation for reserve service after leaving at my 38/16 point, as I'm joining the RAAF and I need to be free from any commitment to another armed force.
I wrote to the Reserve Forces Manning Cell at Air Command, requesting a waiver, as I believed that they deal with this sort of thing. That was a month ago and as yet I haven't received a reply.
Before I go chasing around and trying to resolve this, can anybody 'in the know' confirm that the RFMC is the right place to start, or, in this JPA era, is it somebody/somewhere else entirely?
Thanks in advance.

Piece of p1ss. If called up, don't go.
I read a MoD paper (admittedly, some two or three years ago) that admitted they would only expect some 40% of reservists to actually 'rally to the colours' if called. So much so that they 'accepted' this figure and planned around it.
I understand where you are coming from though. Honour of committment and self respect.
Pleased to see it's still alive.
Regards.

Have you spoken to your DO at Manning?
I'd send him/her an e-mail telling them your intentions and ask them to release you. The only problem is, I supose, if the RAAF require confirmation.
Good luck and enjoy Oz!

They'll just forget about you, did with me after 12yrs and due to do 6 in reserve, when rang up to confirm it they just said 'oh, err, your'e not on the reserve list' bargin then !!
On joining the RNZAF I had to show a document releasing me from my UK Reserve requirement. I requested this, and received it, from my Desk Officer at what was then PMC. Don't know what its called these days!

Not Long is right - joining a foreign military 'automatically' exempts you from reserve service. Deskie is the man to ask for a note. Tanya can tell you what the RAAF accept too.

Thanks for the replies. I'll get in touch with my old Desk Officer. I suspect that the reason I haven't received a reply could be that my request may have been forwarded from RFMC to the Desk Officer for action and it's still working it's way through the system.

Beefy,
I've just been through the exact same process (fly to Oz on 30 Jun destined for Willietown). You need to speak to the Reserves team at HQ Air on 95221-7624 - I don't want to post names and e-mail addresses here. I e-mailed the WO there stating my intentions and included a copy of my posting/appointment message; he e-mailed me a letter of waiver the same day and Tanya was more than happy.
Good luck for the move, see you Down Under.

Didn't even realise / remember that there was a reserve service commitment post 38/16 point. I thought it was SSCs and leaving early that attracted this sort of commitment.

As I understand the rules, having left at my 38/16 point, my own reserve commitment doesn't end until the age of 55.
They've still got to find me though; they couldn't find my whereabouts in about 1996.

Thanks for all the advice. I rang RFMC today to chase up my waiver. Found out it was actioned a couple of weeks ago, I just haven't received the notification yet. Should all be sorted on Monday.
