Tornado Nose-Wheel Up Landing in Finland

Bet it took the Finns less time to get a crane to it than it would at Leuchars!

Sounds like they are having fun up there. Postimees.ee reported yesterday that an F3 had to drop 2 tfuel anks during an ADEX 08 sortie. I couldnt work out what stage of flight it was (ie was it on take off) - I dont think the report covered that. Must have been a quiet news day in Estonia yesterday

If they don't want them dropped, they shouldn't call them "drop tanks" then...

can a tank be dropped by mistake? i.e. full of fuel or is there a fail safe system on board?

Briefly, yes, and the amount of fuel in the tank is irrelevant; if you need to lose the weight/drag that they provide, either for emergency lift or combat manoueverability (sp?), you ditch them.

Well, errr.....

Possible, but not likely. Since the 90's the Emerg Jettison Button has been hidden down a shrouded hole, near the gear lever. Not easy to accidentaly press. Me Thinks there's more to this one than meets the eye,
