Yeah, there's one actually on the old airfield. Drive towards the hangars and follow the signs.
Access is gained by calling one of the phone numbers on the signs. From what I can gather, it's in front of the hangar that has the 5 Sqn crest on it.

It is in such a poor state because they did put travellers'/pikeys in the housing, much the same as Finningley. And funny old thing the crime and destruction in the local area went through the roof!
Even the O's patch is pretty rough......... Still it will cost you in excess of 200k to live there!

Harrogate - May I add my congratulations on a stunning shot! As for HDR - I am only just trying to get into this now... I understand the theory of what is needed re photographs, but am having trouble finding info on how to do the editing - do you have any links to websites or books on the subject?

You're going to need some half-decent software, mate.
I use Photoshop CS3, Photomatix (excellent tool for Tone Mapping) and I tidy up the inevitible 'noise' in my HDRs with Neat Image.
There's a few hundred quid's worth of software there, which I personally can legitimise buying for work purposes, but I've noticed recently that you can download all of the above for free as bit torrents, if that's your thing. I won't tell.
There's a really useful tutorial on HDR and post-production in April's Digital Camera magazine, but the new edition's out now so not sure how you'd get it. It also refers directly to Photomatix and Photoshop CS3, so you'd need those packages if the article's gonna be of any real use to you.
I'll gladly scan the article and email it to you if you send me a PM.

The article here gives a brief overview of the process with an example. It is a bit skimpy on the actual detail of the various element processes but it does make a good introduction.
Even the name of the forum itself is worth a look, should get the webstapo a bit agitated

I was going to call the shot 'Last on the line", but I also like the suggestion of 'Still on guard', so I'm undecided as yet. I like the way the aircraft is sat in the cooler looking area, gazing up to the warm sunset. She probably misses being up there.

May I add my congratulations on a fantastic picture and also offer up to Alan Sundry that Adobe Lightroom is a very good piece of software that is designed specifically for digital.
Version 2 is out as 'Beta' now so anybody can download a trial version foc as it's a cheap way for Adobe to get user feedback early in the design process.
I've been using Version 1 for a while and am very pleased with it. £130 or as near as but I would recommend downloading the trial from the Adobe website.

Wow!!!!
Thank you H!! What a pic. First tour in the RAF, worked in the Tower from 83-86. Can still see Dutch F-5's beating up the airfield and looking down at them from Local as they blow through the ASP; 'Feel's' last trip, 4v4 Lightnings/Harrier GR3s, the 4 GR3s each with an F6 on it's tail in an airfield attack; Red Dog putting shark's teeth on 3 jet during APC and the rumours that started back at base, until Shark formation joined the circuit to silence the unbelievers.....

I know this is utterly unoriginal, and perhaps not entirely appropriate, but the picture made me think of this:

I've got some time on my hands early this week, so for all the folks who've asked for the scanned item, I'll sort it very soon.

slight thread creep....
..does anyone remember the (in)famous tannoy announcements that were made by the GD Cpl from the Guardroom? ISTR he had a Geordie accent, and listening to the various tannoys was a sure way to brighten up a dull day!
