Not exactly a failed ejection but as it turned out a needless one. When the canopy shattered on a 29? Sqdn Javelin, Akrotiri mid 60's, the Nav ejected, landed in sea picked up safely by SAR.
Javelin landed o.k Apparantly after canopy shattered Pilot asked Nav 'if you have to, can you eject?' Nav only heard key word and went.
Remember seeing Javelin land with rail protruding.

Not quite a failed ejection, but it is on the ejection site and an amazing story. I think it was a canberra lost control at about threshold height, one of the backseaters (I think three people were on board) ejected. The backwards velocity cancelled out the forward of the aircraft, the seat seperated and he landed on his feet at a slight jog.
I really should have re-read the story before posting this though...
the story is here:
http://www.ejectionsite.com/
Under aircrew stories on the left hand side, Canberra 1966.
My version is complete fabrication, the actual version is astounding.

Not quite a failed ejection, but didn't 'MH' pull the man sep handle on a twin stick F.2(F.3) on recovery to Coningsby, partially ejecting himself when the drouge fired, leaving the back seater to land it?...early 90's?

i'm trying to find the story of the Wyvern underwater ejection. This site has reference to Lt. B. D. Macfarlanes ejection but no story (It says personal testimony but alas no link). I seem to remember reading it on the site a while ago but cant seem to find it any more. Any ideas?

Laurence Bagley wrote it up in Eagle Annual No 8
( No comments from the cheap seats please!)
PM if you would like a scanned copy.

A-6 partly ejection: Bad luck - good luck. If the parachuterigging wasn't jammed in the fin/rudder the BN would have been thrown forward against the broken glass of the canopy on landing.

Didn't a certain HKG Capt (CX- Union Pres... Nigel D) survive not separating from his seat during a final turn ejection from a Hawk over Treaddur Bay?
I believe the stude in the front was already overcome by fumes, and Nige ejected at over 90deg of bank straight into the mud...broke both his legs, etc. Refresh my memory, somebody...

The only time an Irish Air Corps pilot ever ejected was from a Vampire . Aircraft is on a spinning exercise, wont recover - instructor tells the cadet to get out. Cadet duly obliges and whether it was C of G , aerodynamic or force of the seat going, the nose comes down and instructor flies home leaving a very long walk for the uninjured student. Happened in '70s I think.
