Low flying jetstream, and possible hearing damage
I was out on my daily hill walk this afternoon in the Lansdown area (2 miles North of Bath). At 14.13 I was startled to find a Jetstream flying directly over me (location ST 7245 7015) at roughly 150-180 feet above hilltop level.
I had two very quick thoughts: Firstly, it was really nice to see a Jetstream, and even nicer to see one that low. Second it occurred to me that my MP3 headphones may be a tad loud, as I didn't hear it coming, and could not hear it overhead.
So on a serious note, who owns this aircraft. It was in a red white and blue livery, and had a military registration. Is this a test pilot school aircraft.
Even the brief glimpse I caught was good to see (Jetstreams always seem to remind me of happy days in the Air Training Coprs). I couldn't help wondering if the crew had found it odd to be approaching a walker at low level, and not even be noticed!

Are you sure it was a Jetstream? I thought they had all gone to the scrappy.
Sure it wasn't a King Air? http://www.raf.mod.uk/equipment/kingaorrecognition.cfm

civil rules (air nav order)state not below 500 feet above any person, vehicle, vessel or structure unless for purpose of take off or landing....if mil then this i remember was about 250ft(low fly, correct me if i am wrong ). If you genuinely have reason to believe you got a problem then see your gp.
if you need to follow up log all details, times etc. there is a line re low flying complaints.....google it you should find it.
couldn't be worse than a nimrod on take off, 100 yard from my room

Thanks for that reply, and to most of the other posters.
Is the DERA jetstream still in that colour scheme?
the aircraft I saw today basically had a red underside, including the wings.
As far as I could see in the short time I had, the first two letters of the registration in large letters on the wing undersides were: either ZX or XZ.
I don't know if this helps at all.
Please, no replies telling me it was the Andover XS606

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I used to be a recognition specialist, but I was laughing too much today, having not noticed the aircraft approach due to ultra loud music.

I don't own this space under my name. I should have leased it while I still could

45, I think he has an issue with his MP3 player manufacturer rather than the MOD. Clearly his estimate of height or displacement was clearly in error by 100 feet.

That picture of the Thomsonfly 737 going into Liverpool, where was you when you took the picture.
My wife works at Fiddler's Ferry Power Station and she has stuck it on the wall in her office. They think I have super imposed the aircraft onto a photo of the power station which is in the background.
The reason she has stuck it on the wall is because I fly for Tfly and she works at Fiddlers.
They think I have doctored the photo.
I think you must of been in the tower at Liverpool.
Regards Rob

One of the above is correct.......
If the wife fancies a bigger one, let me know

Low Flying Jetstream
RNAS Culdrose has blue/white Jetstreams. Not sure how many, but we see them fairly often over here, North Cornwall. Usually fairly low and the engine sound is quite recognisable.
