Well, the only proper and correct decision that could have been reached was reached, a triumph of common sense and decency over small-minded pettiness.
I hope those residents who opposed the application will now reflect on their actions and take a long hard look at themselves in the mirror.
Thought: Maybe a sympathetic/patriotic 'journo' would like to consider doing a television documentary about HC and the excellent work it does, in an effort to educate those in the local area and further afield?

Since the pongos can't keep a web site up to save their lives... (That was a dig, banter, a joke... Back off grunts...), I'll post this here, (I also posted it to the Guest book at www.36grayslane.co.uk)

Congratulations and thanks to everyone who played any part in this victory. Special thanks to Sue Norton who's speech demonstrated perfectly who the people are and why this house is needed. Thanks also to the councilors who voted today. You have proved that while there may be some who's interests are not in lockstep with the rest that there is a system of recourse that works.

However, while we rejoice we must also remember the "losers", who should they choose to be, can actually be the winners too. While the urge to gloat is strong please remember that the message is carried much more strongly by showing class and leaving them in peace than in being an obnoxious winner.

It's also time we begin to try to find a way to integrate the residents into the SSAFA house. The ultimate way to demonstrate our victory to them is to have them help and support the house. That's the new discussion.

Don't know where to begin really, other than to say a massive thank you to everyone who got off their ar$e and wrote letters, e-mailed, signed the petition, leaflet dropped, cajoled friends and family and generally made a nuisance of themselves for Blue Team...job well done!

And thanks to PPRuNe for letting some of us use your site whilst ARRSE has been U/S. Will scuttle off back to the trenches and stop smelling the place out soon, we promise.

Good call, AA.

PTP - If you're not earning more than Max Clifford, you bloody well should be! The meeja work on this has been excellent. Perhaps MoD should sack the guy who doesn't know what his troops are up to and employ you!

PtP used to be a regular around here - not up to me to reveal who he is - but he has done an outstanding job on this one, as always. Well done all involved, not least Mrs Norton as that was clearely very difficult for her. Much respect.

Just bloody marvellous!
heartiest congratulations to everyone involved, no matter how little they contributed, it worked.
A vote for common sense in this country at last. I'm off for a big glass of bubbly!

Shame they didn't do a thing on it a day or so ago... But that's ok... The combined force of the three arms boots on the ground seems to have been sufficient.

Well done all of you. The right result.

Just watched it on the 10 o'clock news and it was very sobering that the very next item was about another soldier being killed in Iraq........
