Apparently the webcast, or parts thereof, is on BBC News 24.

Some of these apalling stuffed shirts are just talking bolleaux - the worst kind of bet hedging and squirming. I would have more respect for them if they were actually honest about the reasons behind their objections - ie that some of their constituents are worried about their own house prices and the minor inconveniences of a few cars. If this is a representation of planning committees accross the country, it's no wonder we are in such a dreadful mess.

Oh, and as for the false politeness, councillor that and order of business that, I have only seen one example of worse, and that was in a multi-national NATO meeting led by a civilian!

We now appear to be back on planning arguments.

Current speaker claiming she has been ashamed by the response of Mole Valley residents (and Planning Officers ?) to the Application. She hopes they may be able to restore some pride by voting in favour.

Current Speaker (Ms Horton):

"Rehabilitation is not just for the victims - it's also for the families."

Grays Lane was noisy when she visited this lunchtime. There were cars along Grays Lane, averaging 4-5 per house. Additional noise would be insignificant.

She considers ENV 22 (the argument being used against) is really the most flimsy of arguments against the Application.

It certainly seems that any votes cast against the application will be made on emotional and self-interest grounds rather than through any recognition that the application breaches planning regulations.

This tension stretching 12,000 miles is doing me no good at all! I'm on my third cup of coffee already and it's only 0725!

I think it will pass without conditions. The flimsiness of ENV22 has been pointed out.

Council Leader now speaking.

Recalls Rainbow Trust House from 20 years ago for seriously ill children and their families. Similar arguments and fears were raised then and proved unfounded. He is asking the members to be 'brave' in their decision making and support the Application.

Chairman now speaking as a Councillor (ie not the Chairman).
Planning has to be for the public good and he believes this Application is. It complies with ENV 22 etc.

Councillor Liddell summing up. She says she has nothing much to say, except to ask that they vote for a permanent approval.

Planning Officer (Clive Smith) now stating the bleeding obvious. Suggesting cllrs take into account objections even though they haven't made them directly!

All breakfast TV is crap - it's the law.
