Whilst taking 20 mins to eat my lunch at my desk the advice I would offer is that with all thats going on in the world if you seriously have to time to worry about this sort of trivia you really need to get a proper job

Do you really need Pprune to make your mind up? Just wear whatever you prefer, or get a pair of each type and decide.

Could you also let us know if boxers are better than briefs when wearing a g suit? Or do you guys go commando? Probably better when using a wee wee hose.

mmm, the first step in any task is research, so that barrage seems a bit harsh chaps - but I can take it 
I've used the RAF style gloves for about 15 years of instructing and they need replacing (again!). Unfortunately my links to friendly storemen are broken so real dosh will need to change hands and there's a choice, hence the question to those who might have an opinion.
Surprisingly nobody has challenged the concept of "US style" yet

So what you are saying is that you have been ripping the RAF off for flying gloves for a while, and now you are going to have to buy some?

I know a friendly storeman. Let's call him Dave (because that's his real name). He tells me that if you fill RAF gloves with swarfega (again, ruthlessly pillaged at the poor taxpayer's expense) and abuse yourself, it feels just like someone/something else is doing the deed.
I had to tear myself away from a very boozy 3 hour lunch break to bring you this information. Lucky I wasn't at my desk or I may have sicked up on it.

A, get out more. All work and no play makes Jack a very dull boy - take an hour for lunch, you know, as in lunch hour.
B, be a little more light hearted. If you are so serious a person as to see no merit in a "trivial" matter, perhaps you shouldn't be on the internet at all.
Get a life, lighten up, chill out. Try getting a b-j, or get drunk. Do some ****ing thing, but stop whining like a conway.

No-one has ever been able to give me a satisfactory explanation as to why you have to wear them! Most other pilots seem to manage without!

What some of the OOA sharp end gurners fail to appreciate is the real workload pressures the desk johnnies there in Main Building are under. It's not all 3 hour lunch breaks and early stacks. Well not every day, anyway. Quite often to save time I used to entertain Madame Thumb and her four naughty sisters with a tub of stolen swarfega and finest calf skin by cracking one off right there under my desk.
Not easy in an open plan office whilst eating a sandwich AND telling some loafer in the sandpit he had to stag on for a few more weeks. I say 'used to', because some of the female staff took offence at my over zealous approach to multi-tasking. Well, to cut a long story short, I got 4 months in Colchester and no pension. THAT'S the thanks you get for doing your best to serve your country. I now work for Dave in stores under some sort of 'Care in the Community programme.
If anyone wants some cheap gear call 01400 261201 and ask for Dave. They'll know who you mean. One last thing: white leather gloves are best for pilots because you can clearly write 'Left' and 'Right' on them. Worked for me until I got chopped at Prog Check.

Actually, to be serious for a moment, the last poster has it. I once saw a safety vid of various American pilots who had crashed and burned. The guys with sleeves rolled up, collars turned down etc often lost the use of hands and were very seriously injured. The Yank gloves melt on and the fibres play havoc with the complexion.
The moral of the day was you can expect to lose any exposed flesh. Even though it's tempting to 'go comfy' on a hot summer's day, murphy states that's the day the bowser you're refuelling from goes up. Most of the case studies were from the 60's and 70's but it can and does still occur.
The difference between the protection offered by nomex suit and proper garbing and the cotton t shirt approach was soberingly vast.
