Windows XP - is this a Daily Fail nonsense or do we have a problem? Any experts out there who can elucidate?

The flight deck is the size of three football pitches... the hangar deck is the size of 12 Olympic swimming pools.

The football pitch comparison is boringly obvious, I suppose, but as few people have actually visited an Olympic swimming pool how about a more useful comparison?

Problem is, there are only four units of measurement suitable for use in newspaper articles such as this one:

Football pitches
Olympic swimming pools
Double decker buses
Wales

So you could say it's one millionth the size of Wales, but that's hard to visualise. I suppose you could say it's big enough to park 200 (or however many) double decker buses, but that's only really useful to people who work in bus depots...

At least they got the numbers right when it went under the Forth Bridge.

Watching here from Japan where they have recently launched two large submarine-destroying helicopter carriers, this new British aircraft carrier looks cool, a huge statement to the world.

Nelson's column? Would even be appropriately navalish.

The football pitch comparison is completely acceptable IMO, I can't see the problem meself. Even football widows have watched the kids play, so can visualise based on that.

Good point. Now we've all re-watched John Noakes's ascent, most of us even have a vague idea how tall it is.
There's also the thickness of a human hair, though that's even less useful for measuring aircraft carriers than the size of Wales...

Kids all seem to play 5 a side these days, so even the humble football pitch is open to misinterpretation.

How about 'hangar deck big enough to fit the entire Fleet Air Arm in'?

How about, " cost only about one-hundredth of the money JC would waste if he was elected" .

Who signed all the cladding insulation off?

Bit of a "hot" topic at the moment here in the UK...

The Times, BBC, Sky, and the Telegraph all also reporting Windows XP, so it must have come from somewhere.

They don't know anything about defence, why do you think they know anything about computers?
