I refer you to a previous comment ( thread deleted for some reason!!!)that we should have bought another 2 x C130J Mk4s each year for ten years after the initial purchase.

You can say that again. Especially as the K is now totally defunct and doing hardly any real work. As they say, "you can't polish a turd"

I believe Snoopy was modified back into standard trim (ie all the met kit taken out, etc) and is to be used as the A400 engine testbed. Given the parlous state of AT was any thought given to using Snoopy as a standard truck and using something else to test the engine?

Would that be the K that's been operating non-stop in two(and more)theatres since Nov 2001?

The one that still does the jobs the J can't.

The one with all the equipment and skilled personnel that lets you do those jobs.

Get your facts straight first!!

Generally we do just need more AT and now - the reason the K fleet is so knackered is because it's been around longer and has done all the major operations since Kosovo and before!!!

Well that didn't take long! Put C130 in a thread title and it's handbags at dawn within 15 posts! Sweet work kids.

The Norgies could do a lot worse than an immediate purchase of the C130J. It's a proven platform that will do pretty much everything they need, today. Whilst I'm a fan of the A400M idea (hankering after initial cadre if anyone's reading this by the way ) it is still some way off and, if the J is anything to go by, it'll be a while before it gets enough clearances to do useful stuff.

Similarly, for our AT requirements, a few more Js would be nice along with the conversion of a whole bunch of K crews; there's a lot of experience over there that could be put to very good use over here

Now you kids can get back to your my-dad's-bigger-than-your-dad debate...

Which jobs?

'Can't' implies unable. What precisely can the K do, that the J can't? The SF role would suit the J nicely (better nav kit, much better performance), it just requires the will, a decision, & fitting the Gucci kit.

If there is something the K can do, & the J can't even if we want it to, then I'm genuinely interested to know what.

Cook food in a foil? Or did they take the microwave out of the J for a conventional oven?

Microwave still fitted but your standard airline foils work perfectly in it

Not sure about above, however, I can give you something the J can do that the K cant... the J is infinitely better at covering K dets than vice-versa...

Oh well never mind, I get to stay at home and take all my leave with my family while completing my ATPL with the hours I got doing ops before the J arrived on the scene.

So well done on your better, more serviceable super electronic jet, that, as far as I can see, is the more suited to all those harsh environments. Now where is that Transop for my South Africa trip next month? Better dust off the suitcase again.

And the answer to your question:-

RIC portacabin, sigs portacabin, RE Mk 83 heavy lift tractor, all the big boats and numerous other 'interesting' loads.

And any chalk over 12T from a strip.
