Blackpool Vulcan ( deceased )

Just watched the local news showing the end for said Vulcan. Report(plus a couple of interviews ) said it was sold for £5k to a scrap merchant whose opinion was that it was simply another piece of scrap metal and that he didn't give a damn about it's history----plus the owner who had decided the area it occupied would now make an excellent car park and the fact that he felt it had to go at some time anyway. He merrily pointed out that it had been there for longer than the RAF had operated it btw. As for the publican who was going to put it on display--her, er, settled for "something a little smaller"--a Sea Harrier to be precise --to "amuse the kids in the pub garden" as he so delightfully put it. So that's that then.

Very sad but it was not looked after and now looks utterly dreadful. Just remember that there are still a few survivors that get proper TLC and let;s save what we can. Still a shame though.

Hope the Wellesbourne Vulcan crowd got the opportunity to rob anything worth having. The annual runway dash is always something to behold - would love to see it get airborne one day

'655 has already got a load of spare bits. Looking better than ever now, they've recently re-done the engine intakes and jet pipes. There is a new (to them) monster tow truck 'of the period' to move the a/c to the runway and the 2006 season should be a good one.

'655 isn't in flying condition, but were it to become airborne inadvertantly, the crew are certain it would fly quite happily!
