Chutley, err?
PPr00ne, I agree with you - what on earth is Chutley on about?
The republican terrorist aim in Northern Ireland - when distracted from criminal activity - was political leverage, so they targeted 'the Establishment' irrespective of the party in power. By the early 1990s they realised that attacks on the military achieved very little in terms of either public opinion or political leverage, but attacks on the finance industry (Canary Wharf, Bishopsgate) threatened Britain's invisibles, and attacks on the road network in the run up to the 1997 elections caused maximum buggeration and underpinned Major's moved towards the GFA, which was courageously carried on by Blair.

"Seeing as what is being done to and for convicted terrorists I would be amazed if there is any attempt to prosecute a member of the armed forces for any action during the troubles, it would be a legal minefield with the precedents that have been set."
For the first time ever, I hope you are right.

If you are right, then the story could easily be shown to be false, which nobody has tried to do yet, to my knowledge. So I have to disagree with you. By the way, try writing in proper English. You will be surprised what a refreshing experience it can be!

Isn't this an example of being seen to be doing something, rather than actually doing something? There are quite possibly a lot of stones that no government would like to look under. There may be the threat of 'sacrificial lambs', but that will be about it...unless someone publishes their memoires...
