Singapore closes in on next-generation fighter

According to Flight International, Boeing’s F-15T is the favourite to win Singapore's Next Generation Fighter competition.

Singapore’s Defence Science & Technology Agency has completed its evaluation of the F-15T and Rafale and is believed to be recommending the Boeing fighter.

Perhaps doing a lot of their training in the US and being closer with support for the aircraft in that regard may have some bearing on this.

Why does that little place need a sophisticated fighter? Surely the Singapore govertment will always be working in joint operations with the Americans and other allied forces who can provide air cover when needed?

Are you Geoff Hoon in disguise Navaleye?

I seem to remember him saying something very similar about the UK's situation not too long back

Think Navaleye is being sarcastic.

Politics was always going to decide the winner here - 3 capable jets but only one preferred political solution!

Singapore lives in permanent fear of the possibility of an attack from it's neighbours, North and South. Singapore has some sophisticated equipment but lacks manpower numbers so could, a la 1942, be over run again. By keeping the most modern and capable technology within their armoury they stand a chance of delivering a hefty blow severe enough to stop their attacker long enough for some help to arrive. They watch the Israeli example with great interest, (fortunately Israel haven't needed the overt help yet!).

Blue Eagle beat me to it, they tried Team UK, and it didn't work out.

Team UK may have worked had we been facing the right way when the enemy turned up.

For a supposed 'New Generation Fighter Competition' F-15 it isn't much of a 'new generation' solution is it?
