I am sorry to hear that. I was at a presentation at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, and got a copy of his book "First Blue" autographed by him. (A ripping yarn if I ever saw one!).
He as still standing erect and didnt seem to be frail at all - and was a very imposing 6 foot 3!
He was truly a part of the "Greatest Generation". Unlike a lot of today's "heroes" I got the feeling that he really felt that he was just doing what he had to do and didnt know what the fuss was all about!
