Interested to know -a/c type
We live in an area just north of Brighton and frequently have the odd chinook buzzing our house at around 200 ft.
Yesterday however, we had two grey overhead winged twin engined military aircraft flying in a westerley direction towards Shoreham at what seemed lower than 200 ft at around 1715 GMT. The house and ground shook.
Any ideas on what they might have been?

mate you will get zero response to your requestas most birdies are sick of having to justify why they are practicing their "required" skill sets while part of an authorised task. Now maybe you are keen to catch up with old friends however, most if not all will interpret your post as a witch hunt.

Twins? Grey? Could be anything, really.
Perhaps Islanders (though they'd hardly make the ground shake, unless they hit it) or Canberra PR9s.
Or I'm told that there are a funny pair of Twin Otters floating around at the mo. They seem to have been based at Boscombe Down and routed in via Mildenhall. Supposedly one has been flying around Leeds and the other has been in and out of _Liverpool. They wear civil registrations, N94AR and N512AR.

If you think my post was the start of a 'witch hunt' then perhaps you should read it again. It is purely for my own interest. Yes we do get 'buzzed' frequently but that is not the reason for my question.
Regarding Twin Otters etc. thank you but having been in the commercial aviation industry for over 25 years I have a fairly good recognition of commercial / light aircraft (it definitely wasnt either of them ) its the military knowledge I lack.

You must understand that having flown mil for the majority of my career and having to have fended off futile noise complaints as an OPSO I am less than warming to the smell of pointless banter (noise complaints), while the boys are honing their terrain flight and Low level skills as part of an authorised task in an authorised low flying area. If you have a legit reason for your post then I congratulate you.
Was the machine turbo prop, piston, jet? Piston high wing painted grey cruising at 125-145 kts sounds like a twin islander to me, was the gear down and welded or snuggly tucked up into the wheel wells? Food for thought.

Possible, just about. Perhaps the Greek ones staging through on delivery? More likely to have been G222s (I think the Eyeties ones are grey), ordinary CN-235s (Irish, French), or even Transalls (French, German).

Many thanks, believe they were either G222 or Transall (just one of lifes mysteries), they may have been in the area but they were definitely not twin otters.
