spurned on by a large draft of dodgy merlot i feel to need to say goodbye to the military.......
30 years of flying with you lot, i've enjoyed every minute, rotary, piston, turboprop and jet - just missing floatplane!
flown with the very best, flown with the v.v.dodgy, but never not enjoyed it. would loved to have stayed but..... the present mrs lander has had enough!
my present boss is letting me go quickly, as is my poster - thanks fellas! i must assume i'm a tosser!! Its been great - cobblers to the people who control our destiny - HMF are the best.

Always made me smile when I think of "Premature" when applied to a bloke with 30 years experience. Whats premature about 30 years? 30 secs yes that's premature but let's not go there.
Wonder how many folks have left the air force shall we say against their better wishes but just felt they had no other alternative??
Never really felt the posters had the interests of the individual at heart, more concerned with filling the slot with a number rather than finding the best man for the job, or finding the best job for the man.
What does the future hold for you now?

hmmmm.........relax fella! military aviation is the only way to fly! i'll ask mrs lander re-premature stuff....
sincere bollox though...........i've served with RAF, AAC and even smashed onto RN decks, and loved it all. Lords and Masters consistently let us down, but our end product remains good - we do the job, and don't let people down - the bods i've worked with dont do it for the money - they do it for the crack (as 72 Sqn would say)

My poster once made me a promise. He was posted 6 months later and his replacement did not feel any obligation to honour the promise. He just wanted to get one disestablished flt lt back in an established post.
Fortunately my bosses thought different and the original poster was still in the building although he had gone up stairs.
Miffed, my new poster sat on it for 3 months then put together a string of courses to get me moving. I had a choice. Go with his plan then or accept the crap posting he offered at the due time.
Even then my bosses were ready to fight.
The lesson. When a poster makes you a promise ask him when he is tourex. Post-dated promises aren't worth the oxygen.
Fortunately my bosses thought different and the original poster was still in the building although he had gone up stairs.

The new posting instructions have more detail regarding career and family issues, based on interviews with the subject, and comments from the desk officer. This is a positive step and helps make the process more transparent.

Jess, if you mean the drafter comes onto the unit, you have a personal interview and then he/she says you're going to 'x' regardless, then it is a positive change from the old system, when they just sent you to 'x' without going through the feely-touchy stuff

Lander, wots this all about then I go away on holiday only to come back and find out that Mrs Lander has finally had enough! I thought that was the case in NI in the early nineties (Toffee what nots etc...)
You my son, having served 3 more years than myself are a credit to the Services that you prostituted your flying skills to. I'm not sure if anyone has gone RAF -AAC - RAF before but it confirms my view that the Air Farce really do know a good thing when they see it, a bit like Frank Williams!

Hey Ewe..is you da one wot got hammered in the mess at V813..then went home..to an empty house as your missus was away...plugged in the telly, puked on it in the process, then vommed on the hall carpet???..coz if it is you..I know you velly well. I too was there in the early 90's...albeit in a junior guise.
