Talking Man (or Woman) of the Year.

Notice that the RAF used to have a Man of the Year award (Vulcan thread crash pilot in 1971).

How about your nominations for the Man or Woman of the Year today. Remember, no names unless they are a complete git!

My nomination for Man of the Year (last year):

The bloke on an E-3D sqn who told his Boss that he knew it was time to leave the mob, after a certain Flt Sgt AEOp got an AOC's commendation
(No names about the FS........hum D2 0oops - say no more!)

Kind regards

I wouldn't know D2 from a hole in my @rse, and perhaps there isn't much difference betwen the two, but the fault lies squarely with the person who wrote the citation and the RAF as an organisation. Individuals who only do a mediocre, at best, primary job should never receive Service sponsored awards for excellence in other activities.

I don't have a problem with a charitable organisation putting up a citation for a serviceman for his outstanding contribution to their activities, regardless of his day job....thats their business....but the RAF must reward only those who do well for the RAF.

Some officers really need to think before they write.

DP,

Nice sentiment but fatally flawed Using your logic the good guys would get promoted etc and the wan@ers would be asked to leave ....................where as we all know the wan@ers get promoted and the good guys stand in line for PA/Civvie life

all spelling mistakes are "df" alcohol induced

DP,

obviously you have little or no concept on how the RAF hierarchy works. As ABIW points out, that is the reason why so many ar$es get promoted! (and probably why the Air Farce is in such a dire state!)

I know both the (big) guy who made the call and D2. I wish the big fella was still with us on the sqn and D2 had retired to the piste!

Kind regards

Swinging M,
I too know both D2 and the chap who wrote him up, and unless he's changed remarkably since I left the fleet I can only assume he was written up out of pity. I have never known a man want promotion so badly and yet do so little of any REAL worth to merit it. Hark at me bitchin'.

This is another of the (many) instances where ROs fail to use Appraisal reports for the purpose for which they exist. Namely, identification of those individuals who will be EFFECTIVE in a higher rank. Sad innit?

Left 1 OC

Sadly nothing has changed, and D2 is just the same.
The only relief is that the man will NEVER get further than FS.

Respect for that!

ABIW

So..er..if you're at the top of your tree, does that make you the exception to the rule?

Are you the good guy or the w@nker?

ABIW and TSW,

Having read your replies I have just re-read my message above and I have spotted an error. I missed out an important word. I have re-written the applicable sentence:

"...but the fault lies squarely with the person who wrote the citation and NOT the RAF as an organisation."

Tomorrow I shall study the rules governing the awards of commendations and medals. I shall then comment on your caustic replies.

Oooo Err

DP, you'll be having one of them coronary thingies if your not careful old boy!

If, like me, Left 1 OC, and ABIW you were or had been in the Air Farcwe, then you would appreciate what it is wwe are trying to say.

Don't get so serious my dear chap - this is a bit of banter about someone who is, without doubt at all, an ar$e!! simple as that. Sadly, he has conned some unsuspecting senior officer into a wholly unwarranted commendation, and that is what is wrong.

Kind regards
The Swinging Monkey
Caruthers, send a bottle of grouse round to DP sharp old man!
