A question on medals...

A colleague of mine is attempting to trace medals awarded to his father during WWII - is there a website that anyone knows of that may provide relevant information on this (he served in the RAF) or any other means of tracing the medals.

Apolgies to the mods if this is the wrong forum for this question, any advice anyone has is greatly appreciated.

Paracab, if I read you correctly, your colleague knows which medals his father was awarded but somewhere along the line his Dad parted company with them.

It would be worth trying out this site. You need to study the facilities available on this site carefully, as it is primarily for serious collectors of medals. However, it is actually very useful and helped me in a similar situation a while back.

Alternatively, if he wants to find out what his Dad was awarded, you might like to try The National Archives which is now the central source of just about everything since Cromwell! PM me and let me know how you get on. If all else fails I have a contact who is an expert in this field.

Hope this helps.

DrSyn,

My colleague has a reasonable idea of what his father was awarded as he knows which campaigns he took part in but for whatever reason no longer has the medals.

I will try the links you supplied and keep you advised.

Thank you very much for your help.

Regards, PC.

Army medals Office at Droitwich Spa is the place to contact. Brilliant service and efficient to bot.
Got all my dads medals just before he died and he was chuffed to bits.
