knows which medals his father was awarded but somewhere along the line his Dad parted company with them.

this site. You need to study the facilities available on this site carefully, as it is primarily for serious collectors of medals. However, it is actually very useful and helped me in a similar situation a while back.

The National Archives which is now the central source of just about everything since Cromwell! PM me and let me know how you get on. If all else fails I have a contact who is an expert in this field.
