Age limit for RAF pilot????
Hi guys,
I'm 23 years old and very very soon to be 24. I am currently a junior doctor with 6 months to go until I finish my house year. I have finally decided that medicine aint for me and I wanna fly something fast and noisy. I spent two years in the UAS as a pilot and passed all my pilot aptitude tests at Cranwell. I left the UAS as was unsure about my career plans at the time. Now that I have made the decision - is it too late? Given that if I apply now - by the time my application is sent off I will be 24 - just. I know the age limit is 23.5 but was wondering if anyone knows if they are willing to make exceptions or bend the rules slightly?????
Cheers,
Big Man

If your age prevents you from joing the RAF then try the Navy, they had an age limit of 26 when I went through selection in '93. More likely to go rotary than fast jets.
I would have been slightly over the age limit after IOT but they were prepared to bend the rules.
Best of luck.

Speed,
Some time ago, I was instructing at Valley, and at that time, we had a student who was also medically trained. She was 30 yrs old!!! Trust me, the rules are flexible, if you have 'Other Skills' to bring to the table. I would say, that being a Doctor would help a tadge.........They can old say 'No', in which case you can continue with your 'Proper Job' !
Good luck, and regards,

Would really like to think there's hope. AFCO said that they would put in an application for an age waiver. Spoke to my old sq. leader and he said that it's 99% certain that I've missed the boat and with the current surplus of pilots I was not in a good position.
I have a few mates who are doing their training, one of whom is at valley. He mentioned that there were several navs on his course doing crossovers who were around 27/8 years old. Any idea on chances of crossover if I were to join as medical officer? Appreciate the help guys.
